Bulletins were one of the jobs Publisher did best

Many congregations ran their bulletin and newsletter on Microsoft Publisher for years. Now that Publisher is gone from Microsoft 365, those .pub files still need a home. BrochureBoss opens them in your browser as layouts you can edit, then saves your work in a .bboss file you keep.

The weekly routine stays short. Open last week’s file, replace the text, use Find and replace to change the date, run Check for spelling, and save the PDF. Bulleted and numbered lists handle the order of service, a table holds service times and the week’s schedule, and linked text frames let a long announcement flow from one column to the next.

Templates to start from

Start from a template, or import last week’s bulletin instead.

  • Bi-fold program

A quiet, serif layout on a folded Letter landscape sheet. It suits a bulletin, a wedding or funeral program, or a concert program.

  • Newsletter

Two pages with a masthead and a story that flows through four linked columns, with a master page for the repeating header.

  • Event flyer

Big type and a gradient banner for a fellowship dinner, a rummage sale, or Vacation Bible School.

  • Mailing labels

Thirty labels per sheet, three across, with merge fields ready for your member or donor list.

  • Postcard

6 x 4 inches with merge fields, for a reminder or an invitation.

Print the bulletin as a folded booklet

Tick Booklet when you print and BrochureBoss places the pages in fold-and-staple order, two pages to a sheet, printed on both sides. A booklet needs at least four pages, and blank pages are added at the end to reach a multiple of four. Before anything prints, the app tells you how many sheets it will use, the sheet size, and how many blanks it added. Page numbers sit on the master page as a field, so they stay correct when you move pages.

A bulletin in three steps

  1. Open or import

Open last week’s .bboss file, import an old bulletin with Import .pub, or start from the Bi-fold program.

  2. Update the words

Change the date, the readings, and the announcements. Link text frames so the longer pieces flow.

  3. Check and print

Run Check, then print as a booklet or as single pages and Save as PDF.

Straight talk: A Publisher import is an editable approximation, not a pixel copy. Text, pictures, colors, and positions come across well. Some spacing and vector clip art do not, and fonts you do not have are swapped for close matches. The app lists what it skipped after every import, so keep a PDF of the original to compare.

Questions

  • Can I make a church bulletin in BrochureBoss?

Yes. Use the Bi-fold program for a folded bulletin, the Newsletter for a longer publication, or build your own from text frames, tables, and lists.

  • Can I open my old Publisher bulletins?

Yes. Sign in, choose Import .pub, and pick the file. It becomes an editable layout, and the app lists anything it could not bring across. Read a Microsoft Publisher alternative for more.

  • How do I print a folded booklet bulletin?

Tick Booklet in the print bar. Pages are placed in fold-and-staple order, two to a sheet and printed on both sides. You need at least four pages, and blanks are added to reach a multiple of four.

  • Can text flow from one column or page to the next?

Yes. Link a text frame to another and the story pours through the chain, onto the following page if that is where the chain goes. A red marker shows when there is more text than room.

  • Can I reuse the bulletin every week?

Yes. Save it to your free library or download the .bboss file, open it next week, and change the words. Find and replace updates a date everywhere at once.

  • Can I print mailing labels for our member list?

Yes. The Mailing labels template holds 30 labels per sheet. Load a CSV, preview the records, and print one label per record, up to 500 per print run.

  • Is it free for churches and nonprofits?

BrochureBoss is free for everyone during the browser beta. Desktop app pricing is not set yet, and a free version is planned to stay free. See pricing.
